About WinVinaya Foundation

WinVinaya Foundation, a Charitable Trust, is one of the very few NGOs in India which trains Persons with Disabilities(PWDs) in niche and futuristic skills including Software Development, Data Visualization, Robotic Process Automation(RPA) and more.

According to the 2011 Census, India has a population of over 1.3 billion of which 20 million are PWDs. Of these, only 13% have matric/secondary education and 8.5% are graduates.

As per a study by NASSCOM, the employement rate of PWDs in the Private sector in India stands at a meagre 0.36%.

Some of the key reasons are –

The Candidates’ Stand Point

  • Lack of availability to High Quality Inclusive Learning Solutions
  • Lack of exposure to required skills and employment opportunities in the industry
  • Many inclusive and sincere Teachers don’t get relevant & adequate training to teach PWDs

The Employers’ Stand Point

  • Mind block that PWDs cannot perform key roles
  • Ignorance about the Best Practices of Inclusive Companies
  • Low organizational priority

We aim to address these issues and act as a BRIDGE between the job seekers and the employers, fill the gaps on both the sides and enable success for both.

Reflections

WinVinaya Foundation has been doing tremendous work around imparting holistic vocational training for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). The passion shown by the founders, Shiva Jayagopal and Akila Sankar, is extremely infectious and the approach they adopt for imparting training – and in placing the trained students – is modern, tech-savvy, refreshing, student-friendly, authentic and comes from a very good place. It’s my privilege to have been associated with them over the past few years.

Shiva, Akila & everyone at WinVinaya Foundation are an example and benchmark for how someone working for the disabled should be. Over the past year my interactions with them have strengthened my own conviction of my work. They are true to their goal, in letter and spirit and are what others like us aspire to be. The clarity of purpose, simplicity in action and humility in behaviour is not only inspirational but contagious as well. I am fortunate to work with them directly and in the process learnt a lot. It not only helped me at work but also enabled me to mature as a person. I wish WinVinaya Foundation years of success ahead and their genuine impact in transforming lives of many.

I am a visually challenged person from Mangalore. I am one of the oldest employees at WVF. Over the years, I have learnt many things like Accessibility Testing, Software Testing and Java. Most of the people assume Visually Challenged persons cannot do coding but I don’t believe that, I can easily do simple Java Coding. I also lead Sourcing team at WVF. I am very happy about my role. I am very thankful to WVF because though my dream is to get a government job they have helped me create an identity for myself and support my family meanwhile still pursuing my dream.

Wanted to pass on my appreciations to Akila, Shiva and the wonderful team at WinVinaya. They are doing a fabulous job towards training and making PWD employable and job ready. I cherish the brief moments I worked with them as part of conducting mock interviews to enable PWDs to be job ready and more confident before the actual interviews. The confidence and the never say die attitude of the PWD candidates is exemplary and is worth emulating. I would cherish the moments I worked with the WinVinaya team and look forward for more such opportunities in the near future. I wish the WinVinaya team continued success on this noble mission going forward.

“The human spirit is one of ability, perseverance and courage that no disability can steal away”

My experience with PWD community was a beautiful eye opener, it made me realize that they have the passion to drive things forward and at many instances proved to be equal to us or even better. They had the generosity and willingness to learn, interact and stand by the strongest determination to make a mark in the world. They tried to channelise their inabilities to magnify their strengths which was a wonderful feat. I was fortunate to be a part of WinVinaya Foundation, which gave me an opportunity to work closely with them and witness the underlying essence of PWDs.
