Learn Sign Language

The Deaf Community is unlike any other disabilities since deafness is not evident to the naked eye. You won’t learn that
they are deaf unless you start interacting to them. The Deaf are a very close-knit community. They love to meet new
people and share the joy of sign language with them. Learning sign language has many benefits including improved
communication with deaf people, increased employment opportunities in fields such as education, social work, and healthcare, cultural appreciation and understanding of its history, personal growth by developing new skills, and promoting inclusivity by breaking down communication
barriers and accepting diversity.

Reflection

WinVinaya Foundation has been doing tremendous work around imparting holistic vocational training for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). The passion shown by the founders, Shiva Jayagopal and Akila Sankar, is extremely infectious and the approach they adopt for imparting training – and in placing the trained students – is modern, tech-savvy, refreshing, student-friendly, authentic and comes from a very good place. It’s my privilege to have been associated with them over the past few years.
