“Elocution in Sign language “Myth Buster Series”

Can Persons with Hearing Impairment talk? Can we have a “Speech Competition” for the deaf? This month, as part of Myth Buster Series, we conducted “Elocution in Sign Language” event on 25th September, Saturday.
Akila Sankar, Co-founder of WinVinaya Foundation started the event by discussing the importance of communication, articulating ideas in a confident and effective way so that the audience can understand our perspective. She mentioned that “Talking” is part of Communication and Persons with Hearing Impairment “talk” through a Visual Sign Language.
We had 12 talented students from TEACH, Mumbai and WinVinaya Foundation who expressed their thoughts, perspectives, and experiences on various interesting topics –
- Positives of COVID 19 – learning new skills – Cooking, Gardening, Digital Communication, etc…
- Stop Rape – Importance of boys learning to respect girls and inculcating right behaviours
- Swimming – Overcoming fear of swimming, learning and then now enjoying it
- Excel – Being Visual Learners, how it was enjoyable to see the data transform to visual charts and graphs
- Celebrating Diwali – As a practicing Muslim, how he and his family would light up their home, wear new clothes, make sweets – share it with friends and families.
- Playing Badminton – Though her school did not allow it, how she learnt to play Badminton along with her loving father and how she wants to continue to play even after his death
- And many more…

Ms Raji Gopal Madam, from NISH, Trivandrum gave detailed, individual feedback to the students. The students were proud of being able to express themselves and receive appreciation for their thoughts, expressions.
Mr Aman Sharma, founder of TEACH, Mumbai mentioned that this is just the first step and we should do more such events in bigger scale.
In recognition to the student’s efforts, WinVinaya Foundation in collaboration with TEACH, Mumbai distributed certificates to all the students who participated in the event.
Post this one of our Alumni, Shohan Konchi, currently working in an MNC shared his experience of completing 1 year at the company. He encouraged students to work hard, improve communication which will help them with great future.
We all truly enjoyed the Myth Buster Event and realised how with determination and passion, we can achieve anything in life.
